               Public Information Notice

Traffic Management Plan Map   pdf

Project:             Repair/Reconstruction of Chesterfield Avenue, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8

Background:

Chesterfield Avenue (main road) of The Phoenix Park is in a very poor condition.  The underlying problem is with the substructure of the road, as it was never intended to take the traffic (in terms of volume and weight) that it does. The difficult weather conditions in recent years have exacerbated the situation. It is planned to replace the most damaged parts of the road and other selective repairs between the two gates on Chesterfield Avenue.

Start Date of Road Closure:

These works are intended to start on Monday October 3rd 2011.  Road Closures & diversions will commence at 10am on Monday 3rd October.  The duration of these works is 12 weeks, approximately.

Traffic Management:

The Traffic Management Plan has been developed with the cooperation of An Garda Síochána, Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council.  The Main Contractor, Clonmel Enterprises Ltd,  will have responsibility for the implementation and day to day management of the Traffic Management Plan that will be in place for the duration of these works.

  • Traffic diversions are expected to be in place from 3rd October 2011 from 10am onwards.
  • Principally this involved the introduction of a one-way traffic system within the Park with the bulk of the traffic travelling in an anti-clockwise direction around the Park.
  • In order to minimise disruption, most of the perimeter gates to the Park are being kept open 24/7 for the duration of the works and a number of closed roads are being temporarily reopened to facilitate traffic movement.
  • Electronic & standard signs will be placed inside and outside the Park and updates will be regularly placed on this website.
  • We would ask the public to exercise caution while travelling on routes that they are unfamiliar with and to be mindful of the wild deer herd within the Park.
  • Please click on the map above for full details

The Phoenix Park is a historic landscape of international importance and we hope that the disruptions caused by these essential works will be minimal.  As stated Clonmel Enterprises Ltd. will have responsibility for the implementation and day to day management of the Traffic Management Plan and  Mr Tom Corcoran is the main contact if you have any issues and he can be contacted at 086 858 5018  or in his  absence, Mr Paddy Jones at 086 607 8355 is the second point of contact.

Given that we expect to be repairing Chesterfield Avenue from October to February 2012 inclusive, event organisers are asked to note that unfortunately no new applications for during that period can be accepted.

Once works are completed, in the interest of public safety, we will be delighted to consider appropriate events.
