Primary School Modules

The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre is delighted to host new fun and educational free Primary School Modules from 10am - 12pm, on allocated dates, incorporating practical outdoor/indoor activities and arts and crafts.  The Visitor Centre and environs can make an important contribution to the school curriculum for your school through our free 2 hour modules which are based at the visitor centre and delivered by OPW guides.  These modules put together by both Eco Unesco and the OPW, will include a short indoor and a practical outdoor activity, weather depending.  The introduction and warm up activity will take place in the Audio Visual Room.  Children should bring along a drink and a snack for the break which can be taken outdoors.

Module 1. History and Heritage:

Step back in time with a visit to medieval Ashtown Castle and make/decorate and bring home your own crown and sword.  Become a king or queen for the day and find out what life was like in medieval times.

Module 2. Deer:

Discover the animals that live in the park, badgers, bats, squirrels and much more included. Make your own set of antlers/deer scrapbook and find out how to track and identify deer.

Module 3. Trees - what would we do without them!

Take home your own tree picture/scrapbook from bark and leaf rubbings collected during a tree walk.  Identify exotic and native tree species in the arboretum beside the Visitor Centre and find out how important trees are to us.
